Adivasis March Against Netarhat Displacement

On 21st April 2022 at about 7.30 a.m. about 400 Adivasis threatened with displacement by the Netarhat Firing Range in Jharkhand began their 5-day Padyatra (march on foot) from Tutuapani (Netarhat, Latehar district) to the Governor’s house in Ranchi.

The march on foot, covering 172 kilometers was organised by the “Netarhat Field Firing Range Opposition Central People’s Struggle Committee (Laterhar – Gumla)”, in continuation of the struggle against the project that began in the early 1990s.

245 villages in Latehar and Gumla districts face eviction over the project. Fierce sustained struggle of the Adivasis has forced the project to be out on hold.

The March concluded on 25th April in a protest outside the Governor's house Ranchi. CPIML Central Committee Member Clifton D’Rozario said, “It was a privilege to be part of this March on the first day, on the invitation of Adivasi Sangharsh Morcha, which is supporting the struggle.”
