Flood Relief by AICCTU and AISA in Bengaluru

While the media largely ignored the devastation caused to the working class, AICCTU highlighted and brought it to the attention of the Government.

AICCTU raised complaints with the state authorities such as BBMP, Safai Karamchari Commission, Department of Labour, Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board compelling them to start distribution of flood relief including ration, blankets and other basic necessities to pourakarmikas.

Comrade Arjun Lal Released

Comrade Arjun Lal was released from jail on 20 September. He was arrested last month in Hargaon, in Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh for standing with the dalits demanding justice against atrocities committed by upper caste goons. When he went with the dalit families to the thana to lodge a first information report, the police in connivance with the perpetrators arrested him and many others.

Anti-fascist Convention : The Opposition Must Unite to Fight Fascism

Tamilnadu unit of the CPIML Liberation organized an “Anti-Fascist Convention” on 24 July at Thanjavur, a hotbed of anti-feudal, democratic struggles in Tamil Nadu, which was attended by thousands of party members and supporters from the delta region of Tamil Nadu with bubbling enthusiasm. The convention evoked a good response from political circles and intellectuals in addition to toiling masses of Tamil Nadu.

Slum Demolitions in Delhi

More than 600 families of the Gyaspur Slum in Delhi were forcibly displaced from their homes on August 8th, 2022, after being served a short notice of two days by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). Now, when the country is celebrating its 75th year of Independence, thousands of people have been rendered homeless, forced to live under the open sky, and without access to food, water, toilet or electricity.

Cholera Outbreak in Rayagada

The cholera outbreak in Kashipur, an industrial block in the tribal majority district of Rayagada, Odisha has taken the life of at least 13 people so far and 140 people have been hospitalized by waterborne disease. The Cholera is an acute diarrheal illness caused by infection of the intestine with vibrio cholera bacteria when people get sick by taking unhygienic food or contaminated water. According to Chief District Medical Officer of Rayagada the disease has spread from the contaminated water.

ECI Must Rollback Aadhar-EPIC Linkage

The reports of mass Aadhar collection drives by the Election Commission and mandatory collection of Aadhar numbers during verification processes, in the context of the introduction of Form 6B and the amendment to Form 6 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, which effectively make provision of Aadhar number mandatory for people who are Aadhar card-holders is a matter of serious concern.

Justice For Victims of Sterlite Massacre

In May 2018, hundreds of local villagers had organised a march against the proposed expansion of the Sterlite’s Copper Smelter Plant in Tuticorin town of Tamil Nadu. They were protesting against the severe pollution from the plant in the region leading to catastrophic environmental pollution of ground water and the air. During the peaceful demonstration, the police opened fire on the protesters, killing 13 and injuring 102 people.

Attack on Salman Rushdie: The Increasing Threat of Bigotry and Fanaticism

The attack on Salman Rushdie again reminds us of need to strengthen struggle against the prevailing bigotry, fanaticism spreading at a global scale across the nations. He was attacked and seriously wounded on 12.08.2022 in New York at a public event in which he was invited to speak. We condemn this heinous act and wish him a speedy and complete recovery.
