It is noteworthy that the temple is governed by a trust formed by the Modi government and the members are either close to the government or RSS. In fact they have made every attempt to conceal the mega loot. This large scale embezzlement has not only thoroughly exposed the high moral ground propagated by RSS, its 'Chal, Charitra and Chehra' and BJP's ‘party with a difference’ claim.
People know that in this case the buck stops only at PMO doors whose powerful officer Nripendra Mishra was made all in all in Ayodhya by none other than PM Modi himself. Obviously neither Nripendra Mishra, nor Modi or Bhagwat can escape responsibility and accountability as Modi loyalist officers and RSS leaders were in charge of the whole affair in the temple. It is unique that Ram temple management was entirely in the hands of RSS which is a political organisation in the garb of cultural organisation. The loot of donations is institutionalised corruption by VHP-RSS and BJP at the higher levels. The siphoning of such a large amount of money that went on for such a long period can't be the handiwork of lower level individual employees . Moreover this loot was going on along with alleged land scam and 40% cuts in infrastructuràl work. So it is impossible that Nripendra Mishra and hence Modi or Champat Rai and hence Bhagwat knew nothing about such huge loot of devotees' donations.
As UP assembly elections are approaching, this development has serious political implications. The issue was broken to the media by Akhilesh Yadav. His local Ayodhya leader ex-MLA Pavan Pandey is also quite vocal on the issue. AAP MP Sanjay Singh exposed back then the land scam but no action was taken then on the issue.
The UP Chief Minister Yogi is making all efforts to maintain a bold face in an election year but being a part of the ruling dispensation he is simply not taking any decisive step to unearth the scam and punish the real culprits. However this dacoity is fully exposed and the civil society too is much agitated. Faizabad bar association members took out a procession and submitted a memorandum demanding arrest of Champat Rai and Anil Mishra. Bar has also decided not to defend any of the accused in the court.
However what is needed is an impartial inquiry into the matter which may investigate all aspects in a holistic manner and punish all culprits, however powerful they may be. Maybe the Modi government tries to distract people by tactics like a bill on delimitation in the coming Monsoon session, but it won't be easy for the RSS to wipe out the black scar of this mega-corruption and open loot.
