CPIML MP Raja Ram Singh Slams Illegal and Arbitrary Mass Layoffs in IT Sector

CPIML Member of Parliament, Comrade Raja Ram Singh, has written to the Union Minister of Labour and Employment, demanding urgent intervention to halt the "illegal and arbitrary mass layoffs" being executed by major IT companies, including TCS, across India.

In his strongly worded letter, Comrade Raja Ram highlighted the distressing reports of over 12,000 IT and ITeS employees being terminated in July 2025 alone. He condemned these actions as a blatant violation of labour laws and a ruthless prioritization of corporate profits over worker livelihoods.

"The IT sector, a source of national pride, was built upon the immense hard work and skill of lakhs of Indian employees. It is deeply condemnable that these very companies, nurtured by Indian talent, are now discarding workers illegally in pursuit of higher margins," CPIML MP stated in the letter.

The CPIML MP urges the Government to act immediately by:

  1. Halting all illegal retrenchments and directing companies to explore alternatives like reskilling and redeployment.
  2. Reiterating the applicability of labour laws to IT/ITeS establishments and initiating suo motu action against violations.
  3. Withdrawing exemptions that give preferential treatment to IT employers under the Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act.
  4. Creating a grievance redressal mechanism for coerced resignations and ensuring justice for affected workers.
  5. Guaranteeing severance packages, extended health benefits, and job transition support for retrenched employees.
  6. Mandating trilateral consultations (government, employers, and employee unions) before any restructuring.

Comrade Raja Ram Singh emphasized that the government cannot remain a mute spectator while thousands of families are thrown into financial insecurity due to corporate greed. "It is the fundamental duty of the state to protect its workforce from exploitative and illegal practices," he asserted.
