The conference was attended by over 70 delegates from 43 organisations from 17 countries across the Asian region. Speakers delved into the threats posed by the US-Israeli axis and its imperialist aggressions and threats, militarism, the neoliberal crisis, movements across the world, and the challenges before the forces of the Left and the people. The conference also saw a special session dedicated to solidarity with Cuba. The conference paid tribute to the Cuban Revolution and the internationalist spirit of the Cuban people.
Comrade Clifton addressed the session on ‘People’s Alternatives, Resistance, and Socialist Horizons’, where he spoke about the rich and long history of resistance across Asia and the ongoing people’s struggles. He said that Asia is not entering history as a passive victim of imperialism. It carries the legacies of anti-colonial revolutions, workers’ uprisings, peasant wars, indigenous resistance, and movements for social justice, which make victory inevitable. Each country will find its own path based on its prevailing objective conditions, material realities, history, and legacy of struggle, motivated by the belief that no human being should be exploited.
The fight against military alliances, sanctions, resource extraction, debt domination, and corporate land grabs must be linked with workers' struggles for wages and rights, peasants' struggles for land, and indigenous peoples' struggles for self-determination. Imperialism survives by fragmenting these struggles; resistance advances by connecting them.
He stressed on the importance of concrete international solidarity across people’s struggles, including anti-imperialist movements.
